Hanoi Outdoors: A Map Of Sports Around Kosmo Tay Ho
West Lake is the ideal location for physical activities like walking and cycling, but what if you want more variety in your exercise routine? Kosmo Tay Ho has you covered…
With the stunning West Lake just a stone’s throw away from Kosmo Tay Ho, there is no excuse for residents not to enjoy fresh air and exercise.
Taking a lakeside stroll in the early morning is an invigorating way to start the day, and a run or cycle after work will undoubtedly blow away the cobwebs.
But what if you want something more adventurous than walking, running or cycling around the lake?
What if you crave the camaraderie of team sports? Luckily, Hanoi is a dynamic, energetic city and there’s a sporting activity for just about everyone near Kosmo Tay Ho.
The 5km2 area of West Lake is a focal point for most of Hanoi’s water activities, including rowing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. The Hanoi Kayak Club offers a range of boating activities, both in Hanoi — and West Lake — and further afield. If you’re serious, you can even buy a kayak outright at Umove located at 117 Van Cao Street. And while not exactly a team sport, fishing in West Lake is also a popular pastime for individuals and families alike.
Tennis has a well-earned reputation as being one of the most social sports around. If you’re interested in playing tennis in Hanoi, your first port of call should be Facebook, dropping by groups such as Hanoi Tennis Collective and Hanoi Tennis Expats and Friends. Facebook groups provide lots of useful information, such as tennis court prices and suggestions of where and when to play. Players can even post their location and meet up with other group members in the area to play together.
The closest tennis court to Kosmo Tay Ho is on Xuan La Street, a short walk away from your new apartment.
Where tennis has is one of the most social sports, netball has one of the highest participation rates. It doesn’t matter whether you are young or old, male or female; if you can throw and catch a ball, and you enjoy running around, netball is the game for you. And in Hanoi, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a team. The Hanoi Ois Netball Club welcomes new players each season, even if they are on their own.
Better yet, if you join the club, you get access to the Australian Embassy Compound and a cold beverage afterwards.
Badminton is one of the most popular sports in Vietnam, namely because it takes up little space, and requires only a couple of inexpensive racquets and a shuttlecock. Equipment can be bought at Manh Toan Sport at 160 Xuan Dinh, not far from Kosmo Tay Ho. If you’re particularly keen, just go to your local park — or even the nearest footpath — and join in the fun that way. Alternatively, join the Hanoi Badminton Club via MeetUp for organised sessions.
The idea of large, private spaces to play golf in Hanoi seem unlikely, but they do exist! There are both full-sized golf courses as well as virtual golf and mini golf.
The nearest full-size golf course is only 3km away from Kosmo Tay Ho at Ciputra Club. The course is comprised of 38 lanes, a 300m2 yard and training experts from the world-famous golf academy LGA. Here, not only can you play golf while enjoying beautiful views of the lake but you can also practise with the latest equipment, such as Trackman, Bodditrak and Gasp Lab. A four-month golf practise card here costs about VND12,000,000, which includes use of all the facilities between 6AM and 10PM.
At the other side of the West Lake, The Hanoi Club (76 Yen Phu) is also an unforgettable option for golfers. This is a luxury place to practise that is familiar to most golfers in Hanoi. A special feature of the course is that instead of playing on the common lawn, you can hit a draw straight into the lake and enjoy the magnificent views. Contact golf@thehanoiclub.com for more details on membership benefits as well as training prices.
Running can be as independent or social, and as competitive or relaxed as you wish. With its 17km circumference, West Lake is the perfect location to run a quick 5km or train for a half-marathon. For those who like to run in a pack, Red River Runners meets regularly in Tay Ho for speed training as well as social runs, and they promise that slow runners are catered for. For those who like the great outdoors, they can join Hanoi Hash Harriers to get out of the city and run more challenging trails.
Circuit Training
Kosmo Tay Ho’s outdoor exercise equipment and indoor gym mean that you have all you need for circuits on-site. In Tay Ho, there is Tay Ho Paintball Club (445 Lac Long Quan / 84 Vo Chi Cong). And in Long Bien, there is Galaxy Hunter Paintball Club (100 Hoang Nhu Tiep, Bo De). Players can enjoy playing for 2-3 hours on a budget of about VND400,000 at both facilities. The centres also sell food and drinks for the “soldiers” to recharge after a tiring game.
Great news for football lovers! Just down the road from Kosmo Tay Ho is the Centre of Information, Culture and Sports, which has awesome astroturf 11-a-side football pitches for rent.
